Friday 9th December 2005 - 5pm until 8pm Lingfield Chamber of Commerce is delighted to confirm a repeat of the Lingfield Evening which will take place on Friday 9th December. – The Chamber is celebrating the approach to Christmas by inviting local residents and visitors to join the businesses in true village style. For just over three hours the High Street will be closed to traffic so that everyone can mix and mingle enjoying the shops and other attractions on offer. The event is timed to start slightly later this year at 5 pm to avoid some of the congestion during the exodus from the local schools. Parents are invited to bring their children to join in the proceedings and more importantly visit Santa Claus who will be comfortably housed in the reception area of Lloyds Bank together with his helpers and sack full of presents. A barbecue is to be set up in aid of the Primary School – there will be free children’s roundabout rides, bouncy castle, magician, clown, helium balloons and lots of other amusements and interests. Let’s hope for dry weather! The event will not be confined just to the businesses in the High Street and its immediate neighbours in East Grinstead Road – other companies will be joining in and there will be lots going on at the Lingfield Centre including the extremely popular “children’s face painting”. There is some frantic work going on behind the scenes as the Chairman Paul Hearnden described “As always it has been a monumental task to organise everything with most of us running our own businesses at the same time. Fortunately we have had tremendous support from Tandridge District Council, who agreed to the road closure and gave their wholehearted encouragement. The Parish Council also warmly welcomed the evening and my thanks go to all of the businesses who are participating”. Paul, who runs Hearnden Associates, Independent Financial Advisers from Mount Pleasant Road, added “This is an evening for families and friends. I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone enjoying themselves - events such as this make Lingfield the special place that it is both to live and work in”.
