Local Activities
Portiragnes Plage
The
beautiful "blue flag" beach at Portiragnes plage is only a 10
minute walk away or an easy cycle ride for the energetic. It is
ideal for children as the sea remains shallow a long way out.
There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as
amusements for children and bike hire etc. There is also a "Toro
Piscine" bull ring (not cruel to bull) open in July and August.
There is a local restriction on building in Portiragnes Plage
which means it has
kept its charm and natural beauty, but still provides the
essential amenities of a beachside village. There is a large
market on Wednesday mornings, well worth a visit. Nearby you
will find several riding stables where horses and ponies can be
hired by the hour. The whole area is great for cycling,
especially along the majestic tree lined Canal du Midi (a World Heritage
Site) which is just minutes from the villa. Although there is a
lot to see and do within walking or cycling distance from the
villa, it is still advisable to have a car as there are so many
places worth visiting in the surrounding area.
Beziers
On the way to Beziers (10 minutes by car) you will find great
shopping at the hypermarkets. In Beziers itself there are plenty
of restaurants and pavement cafés and on Fridays there is a
wonderful flower market. In August there is a huge 4 day street
party, 'Féria'. There is also a golf course at St Thomas, near
Beziers.
